Introducing our latest range: The Laverick Ceramic Collection featuring pendant and wall lights

Fine porcelain shades are the focal point of our extraordinary new Collection in collaboration with ceramics experts Laverick & Son.

Our master craftsman and head of design at The Light Yard, Gwyn Carless, has worked closely with the studio of fellow long-time craftsman and celebrated ceramicist, Tony Laverick, to develop 11 striking new pendant light varieties and nine matching wall lights.

Paired with exquisitely machined fixtures, each luminaire’s shade is made from locally sourced clay and adopts an atypical matt style. Vividly translucent when their Edison-style bulbs are switched on, the luminaires cast a honeyed glow which is immensely homely and inviting.

With organic-inspired forms such as honeycombs, orbs and gently tapering cones, the shades tie in with current design trends such as biophilia and the use of natural materials – both expected to strongly influence residential, workplace and hospitality design until at least the end of 2022.

The luminaires also represent enhanced opportunity for design continuity for architects, interior designers and homeowners alike, as each can be made to-order in IP44-rated versions ideal for bathrooms, shower rooms and wet rooms.

Founder and director of The Light Yard Jeff Fuller says, “The demand for natural, locally sourced materials is growing, particularly in the interior accessories space. People want their interiors to reflect their values as well as their aesthetic, so they might buy British or choose to support family businesses. But most importantly, it’s about using natural materials and organic-inspired shapes because they contribute so significantly to a sense of calm and wellbeing.”

The vivid translucency of the shades is made possible by the Lavericks’ traditional – and environmentally friendly – manufacturing process. Locally sourced clay is cast in moulds, dried and kiln-fired to 1260° C. Through this process, the material hardens into fine, high-quality porcelain.

Each shade is polished by hand to give a smooth finish, before we incorporate them into pendant lights, in brushed brass or antique bronze finish, or wall lights with your choice of brushed brass or matt black base.

We were delighted to partner with Staffordshire-based father and son ceramicists Tony Laverick and Jack Laverick, who in 2017 established the aptly-named Laverick & Son.

In their studio, Tony brings 30+ years of expertise and, as one of Britain’s leading ceramic studio potters, a reputation for skilful use of porcelain; meanwhile his son Jack represents the new generation of ceramic designers & makers, bringing innovation and a keen eye to produce contemporary and on-trend designs for the home.

So which are our favourite pieces from the Collection? Choosing our top picks is tough as they are all stunning, but after much debate we’ve settled on three…

GRAND CERAMIC PENDANT LIGHT

The Grand Ceramic Pendant Light commands interior spaces thanks to its size and unique shape. The appearance of fullness and the smoothly textural rounded shade create a stylish focal point. It’s perfect for expansive interior spaces such as entryways, halls, dining areas or large conservatories.

PAGODA CERAMIC PENDANT LIGHT

We love the lantern-like quality of Pagoda Ceramic Pendant Light. Reminiscent of traditional Japanese pagoda lanterns, this is a pendant that is sure to grab attention.

All of our pendants come with your choice of fittings in antique bronze or brushed brass finish. Each luminaire is accompanied by a matching ceiling rose and a stylish two-metre fabric flex, for a seamless appearance.

WILLIAM MORRIS CERAMIC WALL LIGHT

It may be dainty and floral, but the William Morris Ceramic Wall Light makes a powerful style statement. The botanical-themed detailing is evocative of fine lace in its textural finish, suited to traditional, country style interiors or in contrast with a more modern space.

The base of the wall light comes in two beautiful finishes – your choice of matt black or brushed brass. The matt black is simple and understated while the brushed brass is dynamic and eye-catching.
